A clear path from referral to consultation
No portals to install, no complicated logins. Just a clear, human process — starting with a referral from your family physician.
- 1
Speak with your family physician
Virtual consultations require a referral from your family physician. Share your concern with them and, if appropriate, they will send a referral to Dr. Kichian's office.
- 2
Referral review
Dr. Kichian's team reviews each referral for urgency and confirms that a virtual consultation is the right fit.
- 3
Scheduling
Once your referral is accepted, our office will contact you to arrange a time. Most consultations are scheduled within 1–2 weeks; urgent concerns are prioritized.
- 4
Your virtual consultation
The consultation takes place by secure video. Dr. Kichian will take an unhurried history, review any prior test results, and answer your questions.
- 5
Written plan & follow-up
Your referring physician will receive a written summary and clear next steps — whether that's additional testing, treatment adjustments, or ongoing follow-up.
You'll receive a confirmation email
Once your referral is accepted, our office schedules your appointment through the Ocean Platform and sends you a confirmation email with the details. Here's exactly what that email will look like:
Hello,
You are receiving this email because you have been referred to our clinic for a video virtual consultation for Gastroenterology. If need be, the doctor will meet you in person at the hospital at a later date.
To facilitate the virtual consultation, you will receive a link (as a text message to your phone) from Insig Health 15 minutes before your appointment time.

(Sample email — your actual date, time, and provider will be shown here.)
What this email means
Your virtual consultation is officially booked. Save the date and time shown, and on the day of the visit watch for the text-message link from Insig Health — that link is what you tap to join Dr. Kichian.
Procedures booked the same way
Some appointments are booked directly for a procedure at Queensway Carleton Hospital. We use the same Ocean Platform email to confirm your procedure date, time, and to send you gentle reminders.
Please check your junk / spam folder
Emails from Dr. Kichian's office (sent via Ocean Platform) sometimes land in junk mail — especially the first one. If you don't see it in your inbox within a day of your referral being accepted, please check there first.
The virtual visit platform
We use Insig Health
Dr. Kichian uses the Insig Health telemedicine application for virtual consultations. There is nothing to install ahead of time.
- A secure link is sent as a text message to your cellphone about 15 minutes before your scheduled appointment.
- Tap the link on your phone (or open it on a laptop or tablet) to join — no account or app download required.
- The connection is encrypted and complies with Canadian privacy standards (PIPEDA and Ontario's PHIPA).
Please make sure our office has an up-to-date cellphone number that can receive text messages.
Prefer in-person?
In-person visits are available on request
Patients can request an in-person appointment on demand at Dr. Kichian's office at Queensway Carleton Hospital. Please note that in-person visits typically have a longer wait time than virtual consultations.
If you would like an in-person visit, ask your family physician to indicate this preference on the referral, and our office will schedule you accordingly.
Great for
- Second-opinion consultations on a digestive or liver diagnosis
- Ongoing management of chronic conditions like IBS, GERD, or IBD
- Reviewing recent test results and understanding what they mean
- Guidance on colon cancer screening decisions
- Nutrition and lifestyle strategies for digestive wellness
- Clarifying next steps for symptoms that haven't been fully worked up
When a virtual visit isn't the right fit
- Emergency symptoms (severe pain, heavy bleeding, chest pain) — please call 911
- Procedures like colonoscopy or endoscopy that require an in-person facility
- Situations requiring in-person physical examination
When a procedure is needed, Dr. Kichian will coordinate with the appropriate facility and your care team.
